Commentaires : Un spectacle de la seconde saison de la Old Vic Company au New Theatre (Noël Coward Th) sous la direction du trio John Burrel, Laurence Oliver et Ralph Richardson.
Commentaires longs: Ces productions de Henry IV Partie I et II, selon la plupart des commentateurs, ont marqué l’histoire de l’œuvre. Ralph Richardson en jouant Falstaff a ignoré la tradition qui voulait que l’on joue le personnage comme la personnification de la luxure et de la gourmandise et, au contraire, lui a donné intelligence et vivacité d’esprit. Laurence Olivier avec son talent et son audace habituels a joué le rôle de Hotspur dans la première partie et de Swallow dans la deuxième partie – un duo inhabituel. Le Hotspur d’Olivier bégayait sur la lettre 'w'. Passant du chef colérique des rebelles au sombre et mélancolique Swallow, son interprétation des deux personnages était considéré comme un tour de force.
